Bar Casa Vale
Project.
Bar Casa Vale Restaurant (Development/Business)
Portland, Oregon
Scope.
Architectural/Interior design, construction management, interior buildout/fabrication
Description.
The design and construction of an Eastside Portland restaurant (co-owned with two partners). Inspired by the wood-fired foods of norther Spain. The project produced a collaboration of sorts between certain historic culinary traditions of Spain and contemporary Portland culture, its materials and energies. To this end, the creation of BVC’s aesthetic involved interpretation and suggestion, rather than the literal application of a “Spanish” theme – in a manner that paralleled the development of our menu offerings. In addition to the usual scope of tasks required to develop a new restaurant in a raw space, the BCV project included an 8’ long wood burning cooking hearth; and the fabrication of interior furnishings/components, such as lighting, shelving, screens, tables, bar counters, stools, canopy, etc. It also includes, of course, the ongoing operation of the business.
